How This Intimate Milwaukee Wedding Proved Micro Weddings Are Everything

In April 2025, Denizen had the absolute joy of hosting Mariah + David’s intimate micro wedding—a stunning celebration with 50 of their favorite people. It was cozy, colorful, and oh-so-Milwaukee in the best way.

When I opened Denizen in early 2024, I’ll admit—I was a little nervous about building a business around micro weddings. Would couples really be ready to ditch the big guest list for something smaller, deeper, and more intentional?

Mariah + David’s wedding answered that question with a resounding YES.

This day made me fall head over heels for small weddings all over again. Why? Because with an intimate guest count, I can slow down. I can talk to every guest, touch every table, and fully witness the joy that unfolds in our small-but-mighty space. These weddings don’t just look beautiful—they feel beautiful.

But enough about me—let’s talk about this epic day.

A Retro, Romantic Milwaukee Wedding Vibe

From her very first tour, Mariah had a vision: bold reds, soft pinks, retro Vegas meets modern romance. And wow, did she nail it.

Faux floral centerpieces from Mr. Smiley Gifts brought playful, vintage charm.
📸 Burning Sage Photography captured it all with her signature “film noir” vibe. Seriously—her moody, cinematic eye was the perfect match for this couple’s style. (Pro tip: choosing a photographer whose vibe matches your vibe? Total game-changer.)
🍰 Whisk Chick delivered one of her vintage heart cakes—topped with sparkling maraschino cherries. It was as cute as it was delicious.
🧀 Charcuterie cones by Dom Sera (a fresh face in Milwaukee’s grazing scene!) were the cocktail hour hit.
🍍 And that Hawaiian buffet from Ono Kine Grindz? Iconic. If you haven’t been to their North Ave. spot yet—run, don’t walk.
