Denizen MKE, Washington Park Media Center, JazzyRaé Jewels and Accessories, and Artists Working in Education (AWE) are thrilled to present 43rd+Vliet, a free neighborhood event series in our creative small businesses on Milwaukee's Near West Side, across from historic Washington Park. Our indoor and outdoor spaces will be lively artistic hubs showcasing performances, installations, media-making, refreshments and activities with local creatives. These events celebrate the neighborhood’s cultural diversity while fostering vibrant street life along Vliet Street.
We will have a special visit with our City of Milwaukee Mayor Cavalier Johnson at 6pm.
Join us in raising $16,000 to match our $4,000 from Harley-Davidson Foundation and other neighborhood donors for 43rd+Vliet Roadway Artwork. We are seeking partners for a community-designed roadway artwork on our medians, as part of an overall streetscape design directed by our businesses in collaboration with our neighbors Near West Side Partners, Martin Drive Neighborhood Association and Quorum Architects. The roadway artwork draws inspiration from AWE’s Rising Artist Council teens and teaching artists as a traffic-calming measure that can reduce vehicle speeds, increase driver awareness and enhance pedestrian safety. 43rd+Vliet aims to cultivate a joyful, inclusive beacon where any neighbor can create, connect and celebrate.

Washington Park Media Center: At Washington Park Media Center, Casita Prado with Wes Tank and Friends will host an evening of fashion, music, creativity, community and colorful rave-inspired fun for youth and families. The incredible Sauce MKE will supply free groceries along with free clothes from Spruced57.

Teach art? This one’s for you! AWE hosts the Art Teacher Art Club—a welcoming monthly meet-up where artists and art educators can experiment with materials, swap teaching ideas, hear from guest speakers and connect with a supportive creative community.
While this gathering is designed with art teachers in mind, it’s open to the public—whether you teach art, love art or are simply curious, you’re invited to join. You never know who you’ll meet, what you’ll learn or where it might lead.
